UNIBEN Delegation Presents Growth Strategy to Nigeria’s Minister of Regional Development

FIC Report (Edo State) – A delegation from the University of Benin Trust Development Fund (UNIBEN-TDF) recently had a productive meeting with Nigeria’s Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh. The meeting took place in Abuja, during which they outlined the University’s Comprehensive Growth Strategy. The visit aimed to secure Government support and foster collaboration to advance UNIBEN’s Long-term Development Plans.

Led by Chairman of the UNIBEN Trust Board of Trustees, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the delegation included key University and Alumni representatives such as Vice Chancellor Professor Edoba Bright Omoregie, SAN; Emmanuel Olakunle Oriazuwa, Esq, President of the UNIBEN Alumni Association Worldwide; and Dr. Loretta Oduware Ogboro-Okor, Director-General of the Edo State Diaspora Agency.

During the meeting, the delegation detailed their outreach efforts and strategic plans, emphasizing the importance of alumni engagement and Institutional support. They highlighted recent activities, including engagements with prominent supporters in Lagos, such as former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, business leaders like Aigboje Aig-Imoukhuede, and influential politicians, all aimed at mobilizing resources and backing for UNIBEN’s development initiatives.

The delegation also expressed appreciation to Minister Momoh for his assistance in facilitating the university’s solar street lighting project, which has significantly improved campus safety and nighttime visibility, contributing positively to the university environment.

In response, Minister Abubakar Momoh, himself an alumnus of UNIBEN, praised the university’s growth plans and reaffirmed his support for efforts that will enhance the institution’s infrastructure, sustainability, and global competitiveness. He emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships and pledged to continue supporting UNIBEN’s development goals.

Furthermore, the delegation announced that the official launch of the UNIBEN Trust Development Fund is scheduled for June, marking a key milestone in their efforts to mobilize Alumni and Institutional Support Worldwide.

The meeting underscored the Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s higher Education Sector and fostering collaborations that will benefit UNIBEN’s future.
