FIC Report (Benue State) – The Benue State House of Assembly on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, passed the Benue State Revenue (Consolidation and Harmonization) Bill into law.
The plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker, Alfred Emberga, took place at the Assembly Complex in Makurdi.
Chairman of the House Standing Committee on Finance, Mathew Damkor, explained that the new law is aimed at addressing the challenge of multiple taxation in the state and improving the ease of doing business.
He added that the legislation also provides for the domestication of the National Tax Law, which has already been adopted by several other states in the country.
During the sitting, the Majority Leader, Thomas Dugeri, presented the lead debate on the second reading of H.B.23, a bill seeking to establish the Benue State Traffic Management Authority and provide a legal framework for regulating traffic and vehicle inspection in the state.
Hon. Dugeri said the proposed legislation is designed to ensure the safe, efficient, and orderly movement of people and goods across the state. According to him, effective traffic management would help reduce road accidents, ease congestion, minimize pollution, and enhance economic activities and urban living conditions.
He noted that reckless driving and traffic disorder in many towns across the state have resulted in injuries, deformities, and loss of lives, stressing that the proposed law would introduce a modern traffic management system to address the challenges.
Hon. Dugeri therefore urged the House to support the bill and allow it pass second reading so that it can be committed to the House Committee on Power, Transport and Energy for further legislative consideration.
