Zamfara Govt Targets 1.4 Million Children For Polio Vaccination

FIC Report (Zamfara State) – Zamfara State Government has targeted One Million and four hundred thousand (1.4M) children to be vaccinated in the upcoming immunization exercise following the discovery of four new cases of incidents.

This was disclosed by the Incident Manager, Emergency Operation Centre Zamfara State, Dr. Murtala Salahudeen during a media briefing in Gusau recently.

The Manager stated that to ensure no child left unvaccinated a total of 1997 teams were deployed across the community to ensure the successful vaccination in the state.

“This time around we have strategies to our operations on house to house campaign with the distribution of Indermine pack to every child that was vaccinated and ensure a successful exercise in the state” he said.

The Manager further stated that four new cases of poliomyelitis were recorded in two Local Government Areas in the state with 3 cases in Gummi and 1 case in Tsafe LGA highlighting that in 2024 16 cases were recorded but 2025 ended with zero case.

He there fore call on all stakeholders to double effort and work with partners to ensure the successful exercise in the state.

In his remark the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF) Social Policy Specialist, Sokoto office Mr. Isa Ibrahim assured that UNICEF would continue to support the state government towards the survival of children in the state.
