FIC Report (Edo State) – The Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Idia Ize Iyamu, has commended the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu for its commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system.
She gave the commendation on Wednesday following the delivery of modern medical equipment to the hospital by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health (Nigeria) and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA).
Prof. Ize-Iyamu described the intervention as historic, noting that it marks the first time UBTH has received such a comprehensive set of equipment since the hospital was established 53 years ago.
She said the intervention aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration and will significantly improve healthcare delivery, particularly in maternal and neonatal care.
According to her, the hospital management is deeply appreciative of the Federal Government’s support and assured that the equipment will be put to effective use.
“We want to say we are grateful. The whole world will hear about this intervention. We will continue to express our appreciation because when we say thank you, we hope to receive even more support. This is the first time UBTH is receiving this level of intervention,” she said.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu added that the equipment will strengthen the hospital’s capacity to provide quality care for mothers and newborns.
The items delivered include delivery beds, anaesthetic machines, baby cots, fetal monitors/CTG machines, fetal tococardiographs, theatre and labour ward equipment, diathermy machines, neonatal ventilators, humidity gauges, autoclaves, centrifuges (16 and 24 buckets), blood bank equipment, blood refrigerators, blood freezers, among others.
