APC National Convention Will Demonstrate Unity, Discipline and Shared Commitment to National Progress - Information Minister

The Honourable Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has stated that the forthcoming APC National Convention will uniquely demonstrate unity, discipline and shared commitment to national progress.

The Minister spoke in Abuja on Monday at the inauguration of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee of the 2026 APC National Convention.

Idris, who serves as Co-Chairman of the subcommittee, described the national convention as a significant milestone for the ruling party as it continues to strengthen internal democracy and consolidate its vision for a united, prosperous, and progressive Nigeria. “The upcoming national convention provides the party with an opportunity to demonstrate unity, discipline, and a shared commitment to national progress,” said Idris.

Speaking virtually from the UK, Idris noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing bold reforms to reposition Nigeria for sustainable growth and long-term development, adding that the All Progressives Congress remains committed to advancing the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He stressed that in today’s fast-paced information environment, the effectiveness of communication plays a decisive role in the success of major political events. “The responsibility entrusted to this committee is both strategic and vital. The success of any major political event depends greatly on how effectively its message is communicated to the public,” he said.

He explained that the responsibilities of the Media and Publicity Subcommittee go beyond routine publicity, noting that members are expected to ensure accurate dissemination of information, promote transparency, coordinate media engagement, and project the convention’s process and outcomes to Nigerians and the international community.

The Minister outlined the key responsibilities of the committee, including content creation, media relations, media planning and buying, liaison with other subcommittees on media-related engagements, report writing and documentation, media monitoring, performance evaluation, and reporting across print and audio-visual platforms.

He also stated that the subcommittee would oversee the administration and coordination of all media activities connected with the convention.
Idris urged members of the committee to approach their assignment with professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty, noting that effective use of media platforms will ensure the convention receives wide, positive coverage. “I therefore encourage members to approach this assignment with utmost professionalism, creativity, and a strong sense of duty. By leveraging media platforms within our reach, we must ensure that the convention is widely and positively covered, while upholding the highest standards of credibility and integrity,” he said.

Congratulating the subcommittee members on their appointment, the Minister expressed confidence that their collective experience and expertise would contribute significantly to the successful organisation and communication of the 2026 APC National Convention.
He thereafter formally inaugurated the Media and Publicity Subcommittee and wished members success in the discharge of their responsibilities.

The convention is expected to be held March 25-28, 2026.
