Unity And Prayers Remain The Bedrock Of Peace, Development In Benue — Gov. Alia

FIC Report (Benue State) – The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, has emphasized that unity, collective responsibility, and sustained prayers are critical to achieving lasting peace and socio-economic development in the state.

The Governor made this known on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, while hosting Muslim faithful to an Iftar (breaking of fast) at the New Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi. He described the gathering as both spiritually significant and a symbol of unity among the people.

Governor Alia noted the rare coincidence of the holy seasons of Ramadan and Lent, describing it as a unique opportunity for interfaith harmony and collective supplication for the progress of the state and the nation.

“This rare convergence of Ramadan and Lent is a divine invitation for us to unite in prayers for our state and our nation,” the Governor stated.

Speaking on the security situation in the state, Governor Alia acknowledged the challenges inherited by his administration but reassured citizens of government’s unwavering commitment to tackling insecurity.

“While insecurity remains a concern, we are resolute and proactive in confronting it decisively. With sustained efforts and the grace of God, we shall overcome. This monster called insecurity—we have started cutting its head, and it must surely die,” he affirmed.

The Governor commended the Federal Government for its support in combating banditry and criminal activities in the state. He also called on citizens to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing credible and timely information.

Governor Alia reiterated his administration’s vision of transforming Benue into a viable and competitive investment destination, stressing that unity and cooperation among stakeholders are essential to achieving this goal.

“You may not like me, but that is not important. What matters is loving Benue and working together to make the state great again. I invite all people of goodwill to join hands with me to build a Benue that attracts everyone,” he said.

He further urged the people to embrace love, mutual respect, and a shared sense of purpose, noting that collective aspirations must take precedence over divisive tendencies.

The event highlighted the importance of religious tolerance, unity, and shared commitment to the peace and development of Benue State.
