Ministry, NUJ Strengthen Collaboration To Promote Professionalism

FIC Report (Adamawa State) – Ministry of Information and Strategy in Adamawa State and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) have pledged to strengthen collaboration in order to promote professionalism.

The Ministry and the union made the pledge when the leadership of the union paid a courtesy visit on the Commissioner of the Ministry Hon. James Iliya.

Speaking while receiving the leadership of the union, Hon. James Iliya described the visit as timely. He explained that the ministry will continue to provide support for professionalism, development and encourage journalists to demonstrate professionalism in their activities.

He stated that the Adamawa State government is making effort to digitize state own media organization with on-going work at Adamawa Broad Casting Co-operation ABC Yola. He encouraged media organizations to strive for excellent emphasizing that self-effort development is key to progress, and that self-effort yields greater reward than relying solely on government support.

Furthermore he noted that the ministry is willing to grant educational opportunities to staff members who wish to further their education, urging them to leverage online studies to enhance their skills and foster development.

Hon. James Iliya further stated that the government current priority is to enhance information dissemination within the state, and he is committed to developing effective information management systems.

He charged the union to oversee the activities of the nine chapels in the state to identity areas where government support is needed. To address any challenges, growth or welfare issues, using the NUJ Chairman to closely monitor all state media organization for effective management.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information Hajj. Hauwa Bantu thanked the leadership of the union under the leadership of Comrade Abdullah Ibrahim.

Hajj. Hauwa Bantu urged the exco to call on government attention whenever the need arises, and called on the Union members to feel free to come when they need anything in the Ministry.

In his speech earlier, The Chairman of the Union Comrade Abdullah Ibrahim, stated that the objective of their visit was to strengthen collaboration between the Ministry and the Union.

He applauded Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri’s initiatives to revitalize the media houses in order to enhance information dissemination.

He also urged the government to maintain it commitment for the betterment of the state. Comrade Abdullahi appealed to the government to continue to support information officers in enquiring relevant professional qualifications to enhance their capacity in line Modern Journalism standards.
