FIC Report (Imo State) – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) in partnership with Seplat Energy Plc under their Joint Venture (JV), has provided free eye care services to thousands of residents in Imo State through its “Eye Can See” Corporate Social Investment programme.
The initiative, implemented in Owerri, recorded over 33,000 eye screenings, nearly 800 successful surgeries, and the distribution of more than 13,000 eyeglasses to beneficiaries at no cost.
The programme is designed to improve access to essential eye care services, particularly for underserved communities, while also offering screenings for related health conditions and providing appropriate medical support, including counselling and referrals.
Representatives of the Joint Venture noted that the intervention aligns with global best practices in healthcare delivery and supports the broader objective of promoting wellbeing and improving quality of life in host communities.
Speaking at the event, officials of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services emphasised the organisation’s commitment to positively impacting communities hosting its operations, noting that the initiative has restored sight and renewed hope for many beneficiaries.
The programme also highlights the role of strategic collaboration between the public and private sectors in delivering sustainable, high-impact social interventions.
Beneficiaries of the programme expressed appreciation to the Joint Venture partners, describing the intervention as life-changing and a significant relief from the burden of accessing quality eye care services.
The outreach forms part of ongoing efforts by NNPC and its partners to promote inclusive healthcare, enhance community welfare, and contribute to sustainable development across host communities.
