Gov. Agbu Kefas Successfully Hosts 2026 Nwunyo Fishing Festival, Showcases Taraba on Global Stage

FIC Report (Taraba State) – His Excellency Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, has successfully hosted the 2026 Nwunyo Traditional Fishing Festival in Ibi Local Government Area, describing the event as a powerful symbol of unity and cultural identity.

Speaking at the festival, the Governor said the Nwunyo celebration has endured for generations, serving as a unifying force that continues to bind communities together.

He emphasized that the festival goes beyond the river, representing the history, identity, and heritage of the people.

According to him, his administration has taken deliberate steps to elevate the festival to an international platform, using it as a tool for cultural diplomacy and global engagement.

He expressed delight at the presence of international dignitaries, particularly the Prime Minister of Grenada, Dickon Mitchell.

Governor Agbu Kefas reiterated his commitment to projecting Taraba State to the world, noting that culture and the people remain central to his administration’s agenda.

He added that the turnout of global leaders reflects growing confidence in Nigeria’s stability and security under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He assured that Taraba remains peaceful and open to visitors, investors, and tourists from across the globe.

President Tinubu was represented at the event by the Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, who reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to diversifying the economy through tourism as a means of creating jobs and boosting growth.

In his remarks, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Mutfwang, represented the Chairman of the occasion, elder statesman Gen Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma, and commended the Taraba State Government for revitalizing the festival.

Also represented at the event was the President of Ghana by Hon. Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, Minister for Presidential Special Initiatives and Member of Parliament for Nkoranza North Constituency.

The event was further dignified by the presence of Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell and several high-profile dignitaries, including top government functionaries and political office holders from across Nigeria.

The successful hosting of the 2026 Nwunyo Fishing Festival reinforces Taraba State’s growing reputation as a hub for cultural tourism and international collaboration.
