The charge was given during a courtesy and inspection visit to the Command Headquarters in Owerri, where the DIG assessed the operations of key units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other critical departments.

The visit was in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, which emphasizes a policing system that is professional, humane, accountable, and effective. The initiative is aimed at strengthening adherence to the rule of law, protecting human rights, and improving operational efficiency in tackling kidnapping and other violent crimes.

During the visit, the DIG interacted with suspects in custody and reviewed case files to ensure compliance with legal standards, particularly to prevent unlawful detention or prolonged custody beyond constitutionally permitted limits. She stressed that strict adherence to due process in arrest, investigation, and detention procedures remains essential and non-negotiable.

In his briefing, the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Audu Garba Bosso, highlighted ongoing operational efforts to combat violent crimes and maintain discipline within the Force. He reiterated the Command’s zero tolerance for misconduct, including extortion, corruption, and human rights violations.

The Commissioner further disclosed that disciplinary actions had recently been taken against erring officers, including the dismissal of personnel found guilty of misconduct, in line with established procedures. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property and called on members of the public to support policing efforts by providing timely and credible information through approved communication channels.

The visit reinforced the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rule of law in the discharge of its duties.
