ABUJA – (Federal Ministry of Labour & Employment Report) – The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige has re-affirmed the commitment of the President Muhammadu Buhari – led administration to job creation through bilateral cooperation and collaboration between the Government of Nigeria and the Republic of Korea in the area of technical and vocational education.
The Minister stated this in Abuja on Tuesday September 18, 2018 when he received the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Nigeria, In-Tae Lee (Maj Gen). According to him, the Federal Government is energizing its efforts at job creation through renewed emphasis on technical education alongside vocational training, so that Nigerian youths can be trained on how to repair and assemble information technology gadgets such as laptops and GSM sets, among others.
He added that Nigeria would be seeking two-fold technical assistance from the Republic of Korea – technical training for officers in the Ministry and technical assistance for equipping skills acquisition centres across the country. Ngige reverred that the visit is centred around evolving ways for Nigeria and the Republic of Korea to exchange ideas regarding bilateral co-operation on job creation for the teeming unemployed Nigerian youths.
“We are going to work towards a mutually beneficial bilateral co-operation which will buoy up the operations of Korea companies in Nigeria. We shall be happy to see these companies establish assembling plants in Nigeria, thereby helping Korea to exploit the abundant cheap labour in Nigeria, while creating job opportunities for us,” he emphasized.
Ngige intimated the Ambassador on the progress which Nigeria has recorded in labour migration, noting that the country in partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has set up some resource centres. The Minister requested the Republic of Korea to assist in equipping these centres for optimum service on proper migration advisory, while facilitating the ease of regular migration for interested Nigerians.
Speaking earlier, the Korea Ambassador to Nigeria, In-Tae Lee (Maj Gen) said that his visit was to share ideas with the Labour Minister on how the Korean Government can initiate a bilateral relationship to tackle unemployment in the country. He expressed his country’s readiness to support the efforts of the Nigerian Government on job creation.
