FIC Report (Imo State) – Workers in the public and private sectors of Imo State marked this year’s worker’s day on the first of May.
It came with moments of reflection for work conditions and recommitment to duties as they formally converged at the Ndubuisi Kanu Square in Owerri, the state capital.
In a message, the Imo state governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma assured his administration’s commitment to the welfare and productivity of workers, describing them as the “Engine Room” of his government.
In his address, the governor, who was represented by the deputy governor, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, applauded workers for their sacrifices, resilience, and dedication, reiterating that their efforts are essential to the state’s transformation.
She stated that the administration values Imo workers as vital to effective governance and sustainable development, promising that the government will continue to appreciate their efforts with tangible acts of recognition and commendation.
Also speaking, the chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress ( NLC), Imo state chapter, Comrade Uche Chigaemezu Nwigwe described the Imo governor as a Worker- Friendly Leader.
Mr Nwigwe praised the laudable reforms under the Uzodimma-led administration which include; increased minimum wage, enrollment of workers into health insurance scheme, provision of official vehicles to permanent secretaries, rehabilitation and restoration of power supply at the state government secretariat among others.
While praising the governor’s remarkable performance and improved security, he pleaded for interventions regarding other challenges like harmonization of salaries and pensions.
Highlights of the ceremony were;
match -past by various ministries and agencies, cultural dance by the Omenimo Troupe, cutting of the commemoration cake and presentation of a beautifully made governor’s portrait to the governor.
The event was well attended by dignitaries, including the Speaker Imo House of Assembly. Rt.Hon. Chike Olemgbe, Secretary to the state government Chief Cosmas Iwu, Imo state Head of Service, Mrs. Chikaodi Emenalo and others.
