Correctional Service Reaffirms Commitment To Inmates Welfare In Zamfara

FIC Report (Zamfara State) – The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) Zamfara State Command has reaffirmed it’s commitment towards the welfare, health, safety and dignity of inmates under it’s custody at all the centres in the state.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command DSC Mustapha Abubakar and made available to newsmen in Gusau today.

Abubakar stated that the inmates receive adequate care inline with the Operational standards, reforms and guiding principles of the Nigerian Correctional Service saying that they operate welfare programs that guarantee regular feeding, access to healthcare Services and maintenance of hygienic and sanitary conditions within the custodial centres. “Contrary to the claims and accusations of neglect or inhumane treatment of inmates,” he said.

The statement added that the service in collaboration with Government agencies, medical professional and humanitarian partners, provide the inmates with routine medical check-up, medications and other medical Intervention where required.

With regards to the awaiting trial inmates, the statement said such matters fall within Judicial and legal processes involving multiple institutions in the criminal justice system adding that the Command works closely with the Judiciary, Legal Aid organizations and other stakeholders in speedy dispensation of Justice in accordance with the Nigerian law.
