FIC Report (Kwara State) – The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Waidi Shaibu, has charged troops of Joint Task Force North Central, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD (OPSS), to intensify ongoing operations aimed at flushing out kidnappers, bandits and other criminal elements threatening peace and security in the North Central region.
According to a statement issued by Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Appolonia Anele, the COAS gave the directive during his maiden operational visit to the Headquarters of the Joint Task Force at Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, Kwara State. He stressed that the Nigerian Army remains committed to safeguarding lives and property and denying criminal elements the freedom to terrorise communities.
Lieutenant General Shaibu assured troops that the Army Headquarters is deploying the necessary combat enablers and operational resources to strengthen ongoing clearance operations and dismantle criminal hideouts across Kwara State and Niger State.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to improving troop welfare to sustain morale, operational effectiveness and combat readiness.
Earlier, the Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force North Central Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD, Y Yahaya, commended the COAS for his strategic leadership and continued support towards enhancing the operational capacity of the task force. He assured the Army Chief of the troops’ commitment to restoring lasting peace and stability in the region.
