FIC Report (Imo State) – The Imo State governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has urged members of the 2026 Batch B Stream One of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state to discharge their national assignment with , patriotism, dedication, and a sense of responsibility.
Governor Uzodimma gave this charge during the official swearing-in ceremony of the corps members held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Eziama Obaire, Nkwerre Local Government Area of Imo State.
In his address, the governor who was represented at the event by the Chairman of the NYSC State Governing Board and Commissioner for Youth Development and Talent Hunt , Hon. Dr. Mandela Ukaegbu stated that the nation had assigned the young graduates with the responsibility of service because they carry the ideals of unity, vision, and national integration. He reiterated that the future of Nigeria lies significantly on the commitment and resilience of its youths, encouraging them to become agents of positive impact and development in their various places of national assignment.
He further reminded the corps members that the Oath of Allegiance administered to them was not merely a ceremonial exercise but a pledge to serve the nation selflessly.
The oath according to the governor , symbolizes their commitment to placing national interest above personal considerations while fostering peaceful coexistence among Nigerians regardless of ethnic, religious, or cultural differences, and contributing meaningfully to the advancement of their host communities through the deployment of their knowledge, skills, and talents as well.
Governor Uzodimma also explained that by joining the NYSC scheme, the corps members had become part of a proud legacy of young Nigerians who, over the years have played a vital role in promoting national unity, integration, and socio-economic development across the country.
He charged them to take advantage of the various skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes available during and after the orientation course, emphasizing that acquiring skills would not only enhance their employability but also prepare them for self-reliance and wealth creation.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment, adding that the Ministry of Youth Development and Talent Hunt would continue to create opportunities for talented young people to thrive and contribute to the state’s growth and development.
Senator Uzodimma also reassured the corps members of their safety and welfare throughout their service year, stressing that the state government, in collaboration with relevant security agencies, had put adequate measures in place to ensure a secure and conducive environment.
Earlier in a welcome address, the NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs. Doris Erumwunse, expressed appreciation to the Imo State Government and citizens for their unwavering support towards the success of the NYSC scheme.
She praised the corps members for the enthusiasm, discipline, and commitment they had displayed since their arrival at the orientation camp, describing their conduct as an indication of their readiness to participate actively in all camp activities.
Mrs. Erumwunse admonished them to remain law-abiding and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations guiding the orientation programme in order to achieve a successful and rewarding camp experience.
Highlights of the swearing-in ceremony included the administering of Oath of Allegiance to the one thousand, one hundred and fifty seven (1,157) corps members by Hon. Justice Mathew Ijezie, who represented the Acting Chief Judge of Imo State, Hon. Justice Ijeoma Agugua, other colourful activities, like a spirited tug-of-war display by the corps members, showcaseing the unity, teamwork, and energy of the participants.
