Lagos State Govt. Seeks FG’s Support In Addressing Industrial Pollution

FIC Report (Lagos State) – The Lagos State Government, in partnership with the Federal Government, has launched a new school breakfast programme aimed at helping primary school pupils start each day with a nutritious meal before lessons.

The initiative, known as Adopt-a-School: Snacks for Thought – PBAT FEEDS, was officially unveiled at Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area (LCDA). It is a public-private partnership under the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme and is designed to improve school attendance, classroom concentration and pupils’ academic performance.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu described the programme as an important investment in the future of children. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, the governor said Lagos remains committed to working with the Federal Government, private organisations, development partners and other stakeholders to improve the well-being of schoolchildren.

He noted that building a better society requires everyone to play a part, adding that the government welcomes support from individuals and organisations willing to contribute to children’s education and development.

Beyond providing healthy breakfast meals, the initiative will also supply pupils with school bags, tablets, snack boxes, water bottles, flasks, notebooks and other learning materials to support their education.

National Programme Manager of the Renewed Hope National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, Princess Aderemi Adebowale, said Lagos was selected for the official launch because of its leading role in national development.

She explained that the programme will provide nutritious breakfast snacks and drinks before classes begin to reduce classroom hunger, encourage regular school attendance and help children stay focused during lessons.

According to her, the initiative will use a digital platform that allows individuals, Nigerians living abroad, businesses, faith-based organisations and philanthropists to adopt schools and sponsor breakfast meals as part of their corporate social responsibility.

Adebowale stressed that the programme is designed to complement the existing Federal Government school feeding scheme by providing breakfast, while the regular feeding programme continues as usual.

She added that the overall goal is to ensure that children arrive at school on time, remain eager to learn, perform better academically and grow into responsible future leaders.

Chairman of Lagos Island East LCDA, Muibi Folawiyo, welcomed the choice of the council for the launch, describing the programme as one that will encourage punctuality, improve attendance and create a better learning environment for pupils.

He also appealed to banks, insurance companies, religious bodies and other private organisations to support schools in their communities by adopting the initiative, saying that investing in children today is an investment in Nigeria’s future.
