ABUJA – (Institute for Peace & Conflict Resolution Report) – The Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR), Abuja and the Kaduna State Peace Commission (KADSPC) are to design intervention strategies for joint action to deal with the incessant violent conflicts in Kaduna State.
This was the resolution from the discussion during a recent courtesy call by the Acting Director – General of the Institute, Bakut Bakut (Dr) on the Kaduna State Peace Commission (KADSPC). Bakut Bakut observed that the recurrent violent conflicts have continued to hinder peaceful coexistence for genuine rapid socioeconomic development of the State and Nigeria, noting that the State occupies a very strategic position in the country.
He pledged the support and assistance of the Institute as the apex agency of the Federal Government on peace and conflict resolution, adding that researchers at the IPCR would study the Strategic Plan of the Kaduna State Peace Commission to enable the mapping out of more pragmatic interventions for restoring durable peace in the State and entire country.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Secretary of the Commission, Sarki Sambo who received the Acting Director – General of IPCR and his entourage in Kaduna called for collaboration between the IPCR and KADSPC to tackle the unfortunate incidence of violent conflicts in the State. He further disclosed that the Commission has been resolving many conflicts in the State, pointing out that working alongside the IPCR would boost the activities of the Commission. He acknowledged that the collaboration would enhance peace building in Kaduna State.
Earlier, the Acting Director – General of the Institute, Bakut Bakut (Dr) paid homage on the Emir of Zazzau, Shehu Idris in his palace at Zaria where he solicited for the support of traditional institutions towards boosting peaceful coexistence in the State for national unity.
