The Federal Government has announced the commencement of a final verification exercise for the payment of severance benefits to disengaged staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) and federal parastatals who were disengaged between 2005 and 2011.
The exercise, being coordinated by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms (BPSR) in collaboration with the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) and other stakeholders, is aimed at resolving outstanding severance benefit claims for affected former workers and their next-of-kin.
According to an official notice issued by the two agencies, the verification covers officers and next-of-kin of deceased beneficiaries who were disengaged from service during the period but are yet to receive their severance benefits. It also includes individuals who instituted court cases over the non-payment of their entitlements.
The BPSR stated that representatives of the affected MDAs and parastatals would be present at the designated centres nationwide to identify and authenticate beneficiaries and verify submitted documents.
The exercise will be conducted across six zonal centres between July and August 2026.
The South-West verification centre will be hosted at the Federal Pay Office, No. 14 Broad Street, Lagos, from July 20 to July 24, while beneficiaries from the South-South zone will be verified at the Federal Pay Office, Federal Secretariat, Okpanam Road, Asaba, Delta State, from July 27 to July 31.
For the South-East zone, verification is scheduled to take place at the Federal Pay Office, No. 1 Egerton Street, Old GRA, Enugu, from August 3 to August 7.
Beneficiaries from the North-East will be attended to at the Federal Pay Office along Bauchi Road, opposite former Gombe Park, Gombe, from August 10 to August 14, while the North-West exercise will hold at the Federal Pay Office, Audu Bako Federal Secretariat, Kano, from August 17 to August 21.
The final phase of the exercise will take place in the North-Central zone at the Federal Pay Office, Makurdi Road, Phase II, Lafia, Nasarawa State, from August 24 to August 28.
The government directed all beneficiaries to appear in person with the original copies and one photocopy of required documents, including valid bank account details, identity cards issued by their former organisations, and valid means of identification such as an international passport, National Identity Card or driver’s licence.
The verification exercise is expected to pave the way for the settlement of long-standing severance benefit claims and bring closure to cases that have remained unresolved for over a decade.
