FIC Report (Ebonyi State) – The managements of David Umahi Federal University of Health Sciences (DUFUHS), Uburu, and the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH), Uburu, have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration to enhance healthcare delivery, medical education, research and efficient resource sharing.
The Vice-Chancellor of DUFUHS, Prof. Jesse Uneke, gave the assurance when he led the university’s management on a courtesy visit to the newly appointed Chief Medical Director (CMD) of DUFUTH, Prof. Alo Chihurumnanya,
Prof. Uneke described the university and the teaching hospital as inseparable institutions whose shared location provides enormous opportunities for collaboration.
He expressed optimism that the renewed partnership would serve as a model for similar institutions across the country.
The Vice-Chancellor also expressed confidence in the leadership of the new CMD, describing him as an experienced professional capable of consolidating the achievements of his predecessors.
He encouraged consultants at DUFUTH to take advantage of opportunities for full-time academic appointments at the university while serving as honorary consultants at the teaching hospital, noting that the arrangement would promote career advancement and strengthen both institutions.
Prof. Uneke further highlighted the university’s success in securing three National Research Fund (NRF) grants and called for deeper collaboration in multidisciplinary research involving specialists from both institutions to build a sustainable research culture.
Responding, the Chief Medical Director of DUFUTH, Prof. Alo Chihurumnanya, described the visit as a reflection of the strong relationship and shared vision between the university and the teaching hospital.
Prof. Chihurumnanya also urged consultants at the teaching hospital to embrace academic appointments at the university, saying the arrangement would enhance professional development, mentorship and the training of future healthcare professionals.
He assured the university of DUFUTH’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for teaching, research and accreditation exercises.
The CMD commended the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for the visit and reaffirmed the teaching hospital’s readiness to work closely with DUFUHS in advancing healthcare delivery, medical education and research for the benefit of society.
