The Honourable Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, FSI, has formally unveiled Miss Tamunosoye Karibi-George, Miss Nigeria 2026, as Nigeria’s official representative to the 75th Miss World Pageant, scheduled to hold in Vietnam from August 9 to September 5, 2026.
Speaking at a World Press Conference held at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Abuja, the Honourable Minister described Miss Nigeria’s participation as a strategic platform for cultural diplomacy, women empowerment, youth development and the global projection of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.
“It is my honour to formally present Miss Tamunosoye Karibi-George as the official representative of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Miss World Pageant 2026,” the Minister said.
“She will carry our flag onto one of the most visible stages in the world with grace, intelligence and pride.”
The Minister noted that the global pageant, which marks 75 years of Miss World, will bring together approximately 130 nations, offering Nigeria a unique opportunity to showcase its culture, creativity, talent and national identity before a worldwide audience.
She stressed that Nigeria’s participation goes beyond the pursuit of a crown.
“This is not just about the crown. The crown is important, but this goes beyond the crown. This is cultural diplomacy. It showcases our culture, projects the true strength of Nigeria and serves as a dream enabler for young girls,” she stated.
Hon. Sulaiman-Ibrahim explained that Miss World has evolved into a global platform for leadership, purpose, social impact and the advancement of gender equality, adding that the initiative aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, particularly in advancing youth development, women’s leadership and the projection of a confident and capable Nigeria.
“When this young woman walks onto that stage, she does not walk alone. She goes as a Cultural Ambassador. She carries the story of a nation and the aspirations of millions of Nigerian girls,” the Minister said.
The Honourable Minister disclosed that the Ministry would host a high-level national reception in honour of Miss Nigeria on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, to formally celebrate and send her forth as Nigeria’s Cultural Ambassador.
She assured Nigerians that the Ministry would provide full institutional support for Miss Nigeria’s preparation, travel and welfare throughout the competition.
“We see you, we are proud of you, and we send you forth with the full support and prayers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the Minister affirmed.
The Honourable Minister called on Nigerians at home and in the diaspora to support, encourage and pray for Miss Nigeria as she prepares to represent the country on the global stage.
Miss Nigeria’s participation at the 75th Miss World Pageant represents a national opportunity to promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage, strengthen its international image, inspire young women and girls, and showcase the intelligence, creativity, resilience and limitless potential of Nigerian women.
In her welcome remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye, commended the Honourable Minister for supporting the global representation and advancement of Nigerian women.
She described Miss Karibi-George as a proud reflection of the beauty and cultural heritage of the Niger Delta and expressed confidence that she would make Nigeria proud.
“We wish you well as you leave for Vietnam to represent the Federal Republic of Nigeria. May Almighty God go with you, grant you safety and security, and bring you back with the laurel for Nigeria,” the Permanent Secretary said.
Speaking at the event, Miss Tamunosoye Karibi-George expressed gratitude to the Honourable Minister, the Ministry, the Silverbird Group, her National Director, Mr. Guy Murray-Bruce, government agencies and other partners for their support.
“It is truly an honour because this has been a lifelong dream of mine, and I am grateful to see that dream coming true,” she said.
“I cannot wait to carry the flag of Nigeria on the world stage and showcase our rich culture, heritage and the beauty of our people.”
Miss Karibi-George also highlighted her Beauty With a Purpose Project, the Beyond Legal Initiative, which advocates education, inclusion and awareness for children living with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals.
“My platform is telling the world that these are capable individuals. They are capable when given the opportunity,” she stated, calling for greater inclusion and broader opportunities for children with disabilities and neurodivergent individuals.
