FIC Report (Kano State) – The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with government agencies and civil society organisations to combat counterfeit drugs, improve public safety, and support peaceful, inclusive elections ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The assurance was given by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, through the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isa Mani, during separate courtesy and advocacy visits by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Rule of Law and Empowerment Initiative, popularly known as Partners West Africa Nigeria (PWAN), at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the visits underscored the growing partnership between the Police, regulatory agencies, and civil society groups in addressing public health challenges and promoting electoral peace.
Leading the NAFDAC delegation, the Officer in Charge of the Ports Inspection Directorate (PID), Kano, Dr. Azik Musa Kanadi, described the visit as an opportunity to formally introduce himself and appreciate the longstanding cooperation between the agency and the Nigeria Police Force.
He noted that the partnership has played a significant role in the fight against counterfeit, substandard, and harmful regulated products.
“We are here to strengthen our existing collaboration in areas such as intelligence sharing, joint enforcement operations, investigation support, and operational security during raids. Drug abuse and the circulation of fake pharmaceuticals remain serious threats to public health and security, and we cannot tackle them alone,” Dr. Kanadi said.
In a separate engagement on the Executive Director of Partners West Africa Nigeria, Mrs. Kemi Okenyodo, represented by Mr. Daniel Benjamin Oseni, sought the Command’s support for the implementation of the organisation’s project titled “Strengthening Women’s Participation and Peaceful Electoral Processes in Nigeria.”
The initiative, currently being implemented in Kano and Borno states, aims to enhance women’s participation and leadership in politics while promoting peaceful, inclusive, and gender-responsive elections through voter education, capacity building, and stakeholder engagement ahead of the 2027 polls.
Oseni appealed to the Police Command to provide the necessary support to ensure a safe and secure environment for women participating in political activities and for the successful implementation of the project.
Responding on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, DCP Lawal Isa Mani commended both organisations for their proactive engagements and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting initiatives that advance public safety, the rule of law, and national development.
On NAFDAC’s efforts, Mani pledged the Command’s full support through intelligence sharing, joint enforcement operations, and the deployment of personnel to secure regulatory activities.
“The menace of fake drugs and illicit substances fuels crime and insecurity. We will continue working with NAFDAC to dismantle criminal supply chains and ensure those responsible are brought to justice,” he said.
Addressing PWAN’s advocacy, the Deputy Commissioner assured the organisation of the Command’s readiness to provide adequate security for all project activities and to promote gender-responsive policing before, during, and after the 2027 general elections.
