FIC Report (Kaduna State) – The Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani attend another significant milestone in his administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property with the Passing-Out-Parade of over 1,000 Armed Forest Guards, trained through our strategic partnership with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS). The ceremony, held at the DSS Development Centre, Afaka, Kaduna, marks a decisive step in strengthening our security architecture.
He said these highly trained personnel will serve as first responders within their communities, working in close collaboration with conventional security agencies to enhance surveillance, deepen intelligence gathering, and deny criminal elements the opportunity to exploit our forests as sanctuaries for violence and criminality.
Sani mentioned that the 1,000 Armed Forest Guards were selected from the existing 7,000 personnel of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS), whose operational capacity has now been significantly enhanced through specialised training. Under the established rules of engagement, they will be equipped with higher-grade firearms as against the KADVS, giving them greater capacity to confront and defeat terrorists and other criminal elements. Their deployment to their immediate communities will further strengthen intelligence gathering and operational effectiveness, as their knowledge of the local terrain will enable them to identify threats quickly and respond decisively.
He also particularly encouraged by the commendation of the representative of the National Security Adviser, who acknowledged Kaduna State’s resolute commitment to security and revealed that ours was the first state to approach the Federal Government on the establishment and training of Armed Forest Guards. It is especially gratifying that the Office of the National Security Adviser considers our training programme the most successful of its kind in the country.
Uba extend profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and all our security agencies for their steadfast partnership and invaluable support. Building on this remarkable success, he requested the training of an additional 1,000 Armed Forest Guards to further reinforce Kaduna State’s security framework.
