The Federal Ministry of Information and Culture will partner with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) to professionalize the Information Officers of the Ministry.
This was disclosed on Tuesday by the Permanent Secretary, Deaconess Grace Gekpe at the opening ceremony of the Professional Workshop programme of the Chapter of the Institute at Treasures Suites, Abuja.
Represented by the Director, Public Relations and Protocol Department of the Ministry, Mr. Sunday Baba, the Permanent Secretary noted that Public Relations was a dynamic field that had undergone many changes and demanded a lot from the practitioners – especially, in the modern Information and Communication – driven society.
She said Information Officers, as Public Information Managers, would be better equipped to deliver on the mandate of the Ministry if they had the requisite skills of Public Relations which such trainings could provide.
Earlier, the Chairman of the AGM Planning Committee, Mr. Ginger Eke said the Institute believed in capacity building of her members, stating that the workshop provided the opportunity for young practitioners to leverage on the versatile knowledge of the old hands in the field.
The workshop was part of the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting/Conference which started on Monday with a Digital Training for Communication Undergraduates at Nile University, Abuja.
