FIC Report (Sokoto State) – In a bid to boost the morale of corps members, the Sokoto state Government is embarking on the first major renovation of the NYSC permanent Orientation camp in Wamakko, Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto state, in over a decade. The project is valued at N1.079bn.

The project coordinator, Sokoto state Ministry of Works, Arch.Murtala Haliru, stated this to Journalists on Tuesday, 4th August, 2026 during an assessment visit to the camp.

According to him, the scope of work includes the renovation of hostels, kitchen, dining hall, clinic, administrative block and staff quarters, as well as the construction of new pavilion and the upgrade of the main Auditorium hall to a seating capacity of 3000. “The duration of the project is six months.We have spent about one month now, so we have five months to go.”

He explained that, based on the Ministry’s assessment, about 80 percent of the work scheduled for this period has been completed.On the quality of the work, the project coordinator assured that the Ministry is providing strict supervision to ensure standards are adhered.

The permanent Orientation camp, which was established by the former Governor of Sokoto state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has not received any major upgrade since its establishment.

Also speaking, the representative of the contracting firm, Engr.Kasimu Bello, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu, for reposing tremendous confidence in the company and vowed to complete the project even before the stipulated six-month period. The firm will execute quality jobs as Contained in the contractual agreement.

Corps members and camp officials commended the State Government, saying that the renovation will greatly improve the welfare and accommodation of corps members during the Orientation exercise.
