Delta State Police Command Commemorates 2026 International Youth Day

……..Urges Youths To Shun Political And Digital Thuggery.

FIC Report (Delta State) – The Delta State Police Command in complaince with the directive of the Inspector General of Police IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu psc(+) NPM yesterday, joined the rest of the world in commemorating the 2026 International Youth Day, under the theme; “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

According to a press statement by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP. Bright Edafe, the celebration is aimed at strengthening police-youth engagement and encouraging young people to contribute positively to peace, security and community development.

The celebration, which is in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, has a three-day programme of activities from 20th to 22nd August 2026.

Day One activities which began on Thursday 20th August 2026, commenced with the official Launching of the National campaign against Political and Digital Thuggery at the popular Coka Park, along Benin-Onitsha Expressway Asaba.

The Day Two event on Friday, 21st August 2026, featured; Youth Sensitization Walkhathon which took off from Police Headquarters Okpanam Road, Asaba
at 7:00am.

The concluding part of the Three Day programme holds tomorrow Saturday 22nd August 2026 with activities focusing on Police-Youth Dialogue, Panel Discussion and Special Lecture at Officers’ Mess, Police Headquarters, Okpanam Road Asaba at 10:00 am.

The statement further indicated the programme is designed to provide a platform for meaningful interaction with youths on responsible citizenship, peaceful participation, digital responsibility and crime prevention with the theme; “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.”

The event will also feature Lectures on topics including, “My Future is Greater than Political & Digital Thuggery, Drug Abuse and Cultism.”

The Commissioner of Police Delta State Police Command, CP. Yemi Oyeniyi psc, acipm, mnips, urged young people to reject political thuggery, violence, cultism, cybercrime, hate speech and other activities capable of jeopardising their future, and instead channel their energy and talents towards education, entrepreneurship, innovation, sports and other productive pursuits.

The Command therefore invites youths and members of the public to participate actively in the activities and support the campaign message: “MY FUTURE IS GREATER THAN POLITICAL & DIGITAL THUGGERY.”
