The Northwest Development Commission, NWDC, today received a delegation from the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Dawakin Tofa, Kano State, to discuss areas of collaboration in education, skills development, and infrastructure support for the region.
The visit was led by the Commandant of the College, Commodore Abubakar A. Madawaki, who briefed NWDC management on the mandate of the institution and its plans to commence National Diploma, ND, programmes by early 2027.
Welcoming the delegation, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NWDC, Professor Shehu Abdullahi Ma’aji commended the Nigerian Navy for establishing a critical training institution in the Northwest and reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to partnerships that build human capital and strengthen institutions in Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
“We appreciate you coming to brief us early. The establishment of the Navy Logistics College in Dawakin Tofa is a strategic asset for the Northwest. As NWDC, we are interested in any collaboration that will expand access to skills, create opportunities for our youth, and support institutions that serve the region,” the MD said.
In his presentation, Commodore Madawaki said the College relocated to Kano in 2021 following the expansion of the Navy and the separation of finance and logistics training. The Kano State Government provided the site at Dawakin Tofa.
He explained that the College trains naval logisticians for both officers and ratings, and currently runs four categories of officer courses: the Senior Navy Logistics and Management Course, Project Officer Application Course, Logistics Officers Basic Course, and Sub-Technical Officers Course. It also runs four corresponding courses for other ranks.
“The major reason we are here is to inform you of the existence of this college, because many people may not know. We have also received NBTE accreditation to run National Diploma programmes, which we intend to start early next year. The major challenge is infrastructure,” Commodore Madawaki stated.
He noted that the beneficiaries of the ND programmes will be citizens of Kano State and, by extension, the entire Northwest region; adding that the College also hosts conferences, seminars and workshops, with the Nigerian Navy Logistics Seminar scheduled for next month at the Dawakin Tofa campus.
The MD/CEO assured the delegation that NWDC would review the areas of possible intervention, particularly in infrastructure support, to enable the College to fully commence its ND programmes and expand its impact.
Both parties agreed to set up further engagements to explore concrete areas of partnership between NWDC and the Nigerian Navy Logistics College.
