FIC REPORT (EDO STATE) – In a significant act of humanitarian service, the Benin Zone of the Nigeria Blood Movement (NBM) of Africa Worldwide has donated blood to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) in Benin City, Edo State. The donation is part of the organization’s ongoing commitment to humanitarian initiatives aimed at saving lives and supporting healthcare efforts across Nigeria.
The blood donation exercise saw members of the NBM voluntarily giving blood to bolster the hospital’s blood bank, which is often critically short of supplies. This timely intervention is vital, as it ensures that patients in urgent need of blood transfusions—such as accident victims, surgical patients, women experiencing childbirth complications, and other emergency cases—can receive life-saving treatment without delay. With every minute counting in critical health situations, the availability of blood can mean the difference between life and death.
Representing the National President of NBM of Africa Worldwide, Dr. Charles Chimezie, Ph.D., the Chairman of the Benin Zone, Comrade Desmond Izevbigie, emphasized the organization’s dedication to tangible acts of service. He expressed that the blood donation initiative is a demonstration of NBM’s core belief that humanitarian service must be manifested through concrete actions that positively impact lives.
Izevbigie highlighted that the NBM of Africa Worldwide has a longstanding history of engaging in various humanitarian activities across Nigeria and beyond. These initiatives span healthcare, community development, welfare support, and other efforts aimed at alleviating human suffering and uplifting vulnerable populations.
He reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to responding effectively to societal needs, emphasizing that blood donation remains one of the most direct and practical ways to save lives. He noted that donated blood provides an immediate lifeline to those in critical condition, reinforcing the importance of such voluntary acts in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system and safeguarding human dignity.
