FIC REPORT (PLATEAU STATE) – The Executive Governor of Plateau State, His Excellency Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, Esq., has received the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, in Jos, with renewed calls for stronger security collaboration and decisive action to end the recent wave of attacks in the State.
The IGP’s visit to Plateau follows the killing of 9 passengers in an attack on a Jos-bound commercial bus at Dungus Junction, Kuru, in Jos South Local Government Area and a separate attack on Vodni community in Pushit District, Mangu LGA on September 13, 2026.
Receiving the IGP at the Government House, Rayfield, Jos, Governor Mutfwang, represented by his deputy, Her Excellency Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo, commended the Police leadership for responding promptly to the security situation and visiting the State to assess developments firsthand.
The Deputy Governor described the visit as a demonstration of the IGP’s commitment to protecting lives and property, noting that the State Government places a high premium on sustained collaboration with the Police and other security agencies in the collective effort to maintain peace and security.
Governor Mutfwang appreciated the IGP for deploying a new Commissioner of Police to Plateau State and for strengthening the Police Command’s capacity to work with the State Government, sister security agencies, traditional institutions, and communities.
According to him, effective security requires not only the deployment of personnel but also robust intelligence gathering, community engagement and timely response to emerging threats.
He appealed to the IGP to activate and deploy officers to the Mobile Police Barracks in Gashish, describing the facility as strategically located to enhance security operations across Barkin Ladi, Mangu and Bokkos Local Government Areas.
He stressed that putting the facility to full operational use would strengthen police presence and improve response capabilities in communities within the axis.
Governor Mutfwang also urged citizens to remain vigilant and avoid reprisals that could further escalate tensions.
Earlier, IGP Olatunji Disu assured the State Government that the Nigeria Police Force would work closely with the Plateau State Government, other security agencies and local communities to address the security challenges confronting the State.
He said the Police were intensifying community engagement and intelligence gathering as part of efforts to identify threats early, protect vulnerable communities and bring perpetrators to justice.
The IGP noted that the approach had already yielded results, including arrests linked to security incidents, and assured that the Police would continue to strengthen their operational strategies in collaboration with other stakeholders.
He emphasised the importance of building trust between security personnel and communities, urging residents to provide credible, timely information to help security agencies prevent attacks and apprehend criminals.
The Governor’s engagement with the IGP is part of the administration’s continued efforts to strengthen Plateau’s peace and security architecture through closer coordination with security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders and other stakeholders.
