FIC REPORT (EDO STATE) – The Pharmacy Department of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has marked World Pharmacists Day 2026, celebrating the profession’s contributions to patient care, medication safety and public health.
Observed on Friday, September 25, under the theme “Empowering Pharmacists for Healthier Futures,” the occasion highlighted the important role pharmacists play in healthcare delivery.
Led by its Head of Department, Dr. (Mrs.) Edith Yovwin, a delegation paid a courtesy visit to UBTH Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu. The visit provided an opportunity to discuss the essential role pharmacists play in improving patient outcomes, promoting the safe use of medicines, delivering health education, and supporting research and innovation.
UBTH Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (Research and Ethics), Prof. Adebola Ehizele, received the delegation on Prof. Ize-Iyamu’s behalf and thanked the team for the engagement.
Prof. Ize-Iyamu commended pharmacists for their valuable contributions to quality healthcare globally and within UBTH, noting their importance in delivering safe and effective patient care.
World Pharmacists Day is observed annually on September 25 to recognise pharmacists’ contributions to global health, medication safety and patient care.
