FIC REPORT (BAUCHI STATE) – The Society of Nigerian Broadcasters (SNB) has called on media professionals to elevate their standards and actively counter the growing wave of misinformation threatening the nation’s democracy.
Speaking at the SNB’s third Annual General Meeting in Bauchi, industry leaders and government officials emphasized that strict fact-checking and responsible reporting are vital to maintaining public trust, especially as the rise of artificial intelligence makes fabricated audio, video, and text increasingly difficult to detect.
Representing the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Voice of Nigeria DG Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace underscored the urgent need for rigorous content verification in an era where digital tools can easily manipulate public perception.
This view was echoed by Bauchi State Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed—represented by Deputy Governor Rt. Hon. Muhammad Auwal Jatau—who highlighted the administration’s ₦3 billion investment in modernizing state broadcasting facilities to ensure citizens receive credible, balanced information.
SNB President Professor Umaru Pate also acknowledged pressing industry hurdles, including funding, technological disruption, and shifting audience behaviors.
As media boundaries continue to blur between traditional broadcasting and fast-moving digital platforms, keynote speaker Motunrayo Famuyiwa Alaka reminded professionals that radio and television remain anchors of Nigeria’s information ecosystem.
