Akpabio Joins Tinubu, APC Chieftains to Flag Off Campaign for 2027 General Elections

The President of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly, Dr. Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, on Saturday joined President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other prominent leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the official flag-off of the party’s national campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The event, held at the Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna State, brought together party leaders, governors, political stakeholders and supporters from across the country to showcase the achievements of the Tinubu administration in its first term and mobilise support for the President’s re-election bid.

Among the dignitaries at the rally were Vice President Kashim Shettima; Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), Senator Abdulaziz Yari; APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda; Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi; and the host Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani.

Speaking at the rally, President Tinubu expressed appreciation to the people of Kaduna State for their support during the previous presidential election, urging them to sustain their confidence in his administration and the ruling party.

The President used the occasion to highlight some of the reforms undertaken by his administration, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, which he maintained had addressed longstanding irregularities associated with the former subsidy regime.

Taking a swipe at opposition presidential candidates advocating the restoration of fuel subsidy, Tinubu insisted that the policy had become a thing of the past.

“The fuel subsidy is firmly behind us. No more corruption! No more falsification of invoices! No more lies! No more fuel smuggling! Your prosperity is here. Your future is in your hands, and your fingerprints at the ballot will reflect it,” the President declared.

He cautioned Nigerians against what he described as attempts by political opponents to misrepresent the government’s reform agenda, urging the electorate to carefully assess the records and promises of those seeking public office.

Tinubu also responded to criticisms concerning hunger and poverty, maintaining that his administration was working to address inherited economic challenges and improve the living conditions of Nigerians.

“I have an argument. I hear my opponent talking about hunger, poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, they created the poverty. We are trying to eradicate it,” he stated.

The President further highlighted the regular payment of workers’ salaries and the performance of APC governors as indications of his administration’s commitment to governance and national development.

“We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. To you the children of our country, I promise prosperity and you will not regret going to the polls,” Tinubu assured.

He subsequently called on Nigerians to turn out massively on January 16, 2027, to renew his mandate for another four years, while also supporting APC candidates contesting elections into the National Assembly, governorship positions and State Houses of Assembly.

The President of the Senate, Dr. Akpabio, joined other party leaders at the event, which marked the commencement of the APC’s nationwide campaign activities ahead of the forthcoming polls.

The rally also provided an opportunity for the party’s leadership to consolidate its mobilisation efforts and present the administration’s achievements and development agenda to the electorate.

In a symbolic demonstration of the party’s readiness for the electoral contest, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, presented party flags to APC governors from the North-West geopolitical zone, signalling the commencement of intensified grassroots mobilisation across the region.

The Kaduna rally marked the beginning of the party’s national campaign engagements as it seeks to secure another mandate for President Tinubu and its candidates in the 2027 general elections.
