FIC REPORT (BAYELSA STATE) – The Bayelsa State Commissioner of Police, Ajao Saka Adewale, has warned police officers against unlawful arrests, illegal detention and other forms of misconduct during surprise inspections of eight police formations across the state.
Adewale conducted the inspections on Saturday, October 24, 2026, visiting divisional police headquarters in Agbere, Kaiama, Sagbama, Aleibiri and Ekeremor, alongside the Sagbama and Ekeremor Area Commands and the Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU), Base 22.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Musa Mohammed, the exercise was aimed at assessing operational readiness, strengthening internal supervision and ensuring compliance with established police regulations.
During the visits, the commissioner inspected station facilities, detention areas and duty posts, while assessing the alertness, discipline and preparedness of personnel deployed to the various formations.
He also interacted with officers and men, urging them to remain vigilant, respond promptly to security threats and uphold professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The police chief charged Divisional Police Officers and other supervisory officers to strengthen oversight of their personnel, maintain clean and functional facilities and ensure sustained operational readiness within their respective jurisdictions.
He emphasised that all arrests, detentions and other police actions must be carried out in strict compliance with the law and established procedures.
Adewale warned that arbitrary arrests, unlawful detention and other unprofessional practices would not be tolerated, noting that such conduct could undermine public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
He assured residents that the command would sustain regular and unannounced inspections of police formations to promote accountability, improve service delivery and strengthen effective policing across Bayelsa State.
The statement was signed by DSP Musa Mohammed, Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, on behalf of the commissioner.
