FIC REPORT (BORNO STATE) – The Vice-Chancellor describes the gesture as a landmark contribution to student welfare, institutional development and sustainable transportation.
Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), Borno State, has received a brand-new 40-seater electric bus donated by the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Kashim Shettima, in fulfilment of his earlier promise to support the University’s transportation needs and enhance the welfare of its students.
The presentation of the electric bus represents another significant demonstration of the Vice-President’s commitment to educational development and his continued support for institutions of higher learning, particularly in Borno State.
The donation also reflects the Federal Government’s broader commitment to improving the learning environment, promoting student welfare and strengthening public institutions through strategic interventions.
Speaking during the presentation, the Vice-President’s representative Musa Haruna Saleh formally introduced the electric bus to the University and invited the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Babagana Gutti, to test run the Electric Bus
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor expressed profound appreciation to the Vice-President for translating his promise into a tangible intervention, describing the donation as a demonstration of purposeful leadership, compassion and genuine commitment to the advancement of education.
Professor Gutti noted that the provision of the 40-seater electric bus would significantly strengthen the University’s transportation system, ease mobility challenges and contribute to a more convenient and supportive learning environment for students and members of the University community.
He particularly appreciated the Vice-President for responding to the University’s transportation needs, stressing that the gesture would have a direct and positive impact on student welfare and institutional operations.
The Vice-Chancellor further observed that the donation was not merely about providing a means of transportation but also about demonstrating that the concerns and welfare of students remain important to leaders who genuinely believe in the transformative power of education.
He assured the Vice-President that the University would ensure the proper utilisation and maintenance of the vehicle for the benefit of the University community.
Professor Gutti also reaffirmed the University’s commitment to supporting the Federal Government’s educational development agenda through quality teaching, research, innovation and the production of graduates equipped to contribute meaningfully to national development.
The donation comes at a time when Kashim Ibrahim University is witnessing significant institutional growth, particularly in infrastructure development, expansion of academic programmes, professional and NUC accreditation exercises, and the strengthening of its College of Health Sciences.
The University community has therefore received the gesture with great appreciation, recognising it as an important contribution to the ongoing transformation of the institution.
