The Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan has pointedly told staff of her Ministry that if she must run the Ministry effectively to deliver on its mandates, then the issue of welfare to staff at every religious festivity is not sustainable.
She asked the staff and Union Leaders to consider that funds paucity viewed against needs compel her to approach the issue or paying staff some allowances to celebrate, Easter, Sallah and New Year Day in another way.
Dr. Folashade Yemi Esan led the Directors of her Ministry to meet with all staff at a meeting dubbed Town Hall Meeting held on 21st May, 2019 at the Amphi Theater, in N.N.P.C. Towers which houses her Ministry.
The Permanent Secretary explained that capital fund releases which ought to come on monthly basis have been irregular, stating that only two releases have been secured so far under 2018 Budget year. She said she had hoped that benefits from the various capacity building for staff would have made up for the review of welfare packages.
The Permanent Secretary revealed that she is happy about the positive working relationship she has with the Directors and staff of the Ministry. She directed the Directors of the Ministry to do more by accommodating and carrying their staff along on all issues through regular Departmental meetings. On this, she directed the Directors to report outcomes of such regular meetings to her.
Dr. Yemi Esan disclosed at the Town Hall Meeting with her staff that initiative, trust and synergy with staff are her cherished virtues to move the Ministry and the Country to the next level in line with President Mohammed Buhari administration.
When some of the staff urged her to consider relating with the Agencies of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to find ways out of some of the issues confronting the Ministry, she declared that the Ministry should not depend on its agencies for things, querying how the Ministry would be able to supervise the agencies effectively if it goes cap-in hand every time to beg them for support.
While responding, the Chairman of Joint Staff Unions of the Ministry, Comrade Dansaba Emmanuel encouraged the Permanent Secretary to continue her good works in the Ministry, as he said; posterity will judge her well in future.
