…commends Task Team.
Abuja (Min. of FCT) – The Honourable Minister of the FCT, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello over the weekend toured the various areas prone to traffic gridlock within the FCT and commended the Ministerial Task Team on Traffic Management for a job well done.
Malam Bello, in company of the Executive Secretary of the FCDA, Engr. Umar Gambo Jibrin and operatives involved with Traffic Management Task Team visited the AYA – Nyanya section of the Abuja – Keffi Road, the Gwarimpa U Turn at the Outer Northern Expressway and the Dutse Sokale road.
The Minister also visited the Gado Nasko and the NYSC roads in Kubwa town where the Task Team had succeeded in not only opening up the road which hitherto had been unpassable due to illegal street trading but also enabled a clean-up operation by the Abuja Environmental Protection Board as well.
The Minister who was resoundingly welcomed and received comments of appreciation from the residents and traders also visited the Sa’ Nyanyayi of Nyanya, Danladi Iya.
Speaking after the tour, Malam Bello said that members of the Task Team were selected because they exhibited a passion for work and had a proven track record of competence. He further said a lot can be achieved if officers were focused.
While expressing happiness with the support the Department of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) AEPB, FRSC and other agencies and departments involved the Task Team had provided it, the FCT Minister said that with inter-departmental cooperation, “we can move mountains.”
He then charged all civil servants to live up to their responsibilities in the discharge of their duties and reminded them that small positive interventions will positively affect thousands of lives and negative actions will equally affect a lot of people.
While acknowledging that the Task Team had indeed achieved a lot, he reminded them that a lot still needed to be achieved.
In his response, the Chairman of the Task Team, Ikharo Attah thanked the Minister for his support and pledged that the Team will continue to deliver on its mandate.
Also speaking, President of the Road Network Association of Nigeria, John, John Eket, commended the Task Team for the wonderful job they have done. He said workers can now drive from the Federal Secretariat down to their localities in the satellite areas within the shortest unprecedented time, adding that the excitement and joy that Abuja road users have had within the period that the Task Team has been in operation cannot be quantified.
“It has saved us a lot of accidents. The ratio of accidents we have recorded has drastically reduced because people are aware that you don’t misbehave on the roads and you don’t sell by the road side and I think it’s a welcome development,” he further noted.
