Lalong launches 2020 Emblem Appeal Fund

FIC Report (Jos) – Plateau state Governor, Simon Bako Lalong, has allocated parcel of lands to the State Security council for their contributions towards the sustenance of Peace in the state.

Governor Lalong disclosed this during the 2020 Emblem Appeal Fund Launch on Monday at the Banquet Hall of the Government House, Rayfield, JOS.

Lalong also donated a car for the Nigerian Legion promising that One Million Naira will be given each month for the fueling of the vehicle.

According to the Governor, his administration have established a skills acquisition centre and urged the Nigerian legion to key into it.

He said that event was a sober reflection on what life would have been without their patriotism, doggedness and courage even in the face of danger, where many lost their lives while others are still carrying the scars and emotional trauma from their experiences.

The Governor said the Armed Forces is still actively engaged in Internal Security operations around the country, particularly the on-going war against insurgency in some parts of the country, stressing that operation Safe Haven and Operation Rainbow as well as routine security operations have ensured that the violence and insecurity that befell the state was tackled head on and expressed appreciation for their sacrifices.

He mentioned that the event is set aside to acknowledge and commend the sacrifice of our fallen heroes and veterans of First and Second World War, Nigeria Civil War and Peace Support Operation around the world.

While commending the Nigerian Legion for carrying out various initiatives in supporting its members, Lalong said that the Rescue Administration would continue to set example of payment of salaries, pensions and gratuity, pointing out that it is a priority.

He however appealed to the spirited individuals, corporate organizations, Governments and other establishments to contribute substantially to the cause so that the sacrifices of the veterans would not be in vain.

Earlier, the Plateau State Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, Mr Satish Yilwat, appreciated the patriotism of the fallen heroes in defending the territorial integrity of the country.

He solicited the continuous support and prayers for the security agencies to enable them succeed.

According to him, the reelection of Governor Lalong served as a renewal of his commitment in order to move the state to a higher height.

Lalong, on behalf of himself and his family, later donated the sum of five million naira to the Legionnaires.

There were donations from the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Air Force, Para- Military and Plateau State Government amongst others.
