FIC Report (Oyo State) – Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, a former Governor of Oyo State, has passed away. Dr. Olunloyo died on 6th of April, 2025, a few days to his 90th birthday.
Former Governor Victor Omololu Olunloyo was born on April 14th, 1935. He died in the early hour of April 6th, 2025, at about 1:40am.
He was a Nigerian mathematician. As a politician, he was elected and sworn-in as the governor of old Oyo State, now Oyo and Osun states, on 1 October 1983, the position he held until 31 December 1983, when the military regime of General Muhammadu Buhari took power.
He later became a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyo State chapter.
The news of his demise was confirmed in a statement signed by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, on behalf of the family.
The statement reads, “With a heavy heart but gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, mathematician and engineer and renowned technocrat, a few days before his 90th birthday.
“The Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, Dr. Olunloyo, was the first Rector, Ibadan Polytechnic and first Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, among other notable appointments.
“His long record of service to the nation and humanity is a source of pride to his family and associates, even as we come to grip with this devastating event”, the family said.
As a distinguished figure in Nigerian politics. He was the first Ibadan indigen to be elected as governor of Oyo State. He also made his marks in academia. Olunloyo’s legacy will be remembered for years to come.
His dedication to public service and his impact on the education sector have made a lasting impression on the nation.
