Abia Deputy Declares Open The South East Zonal Transport Conference/Special Induction Ceremony

Sickening sight of unruly behavior on Abia roads will soon be a thing of the past as the Governor Alex Otti’s led administration is determined in it’s resolve to ensure the enhancement of motorable roads and sanitization of the transport sector in line with Govt’s policy thrust.

Abia State Deputy Governor ,Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu stated this while held at the Bishop Nwedo Pastoral Center, Umuahia said the importance of transportation in the economic growth of the State cannot be overemphasized.

Engineer Emetu used the forum to commend the Federal Government for creating an Institute to oversee the proper management of airways, waterways, railways and roadways and urge them to regulate the operational standards of transport pandemic through Tracing and Certification as well as live up to it’s billing as a non separable part of the society.

The Deputy Governor noted that transportation apart from playing very important roles in economic growth of production, distribution and consumption of goods, it raises the gross domestic product of the State and Nation as well as uplift the social life formation and enlargement of settlements, political growth and effective administration of areas.

He congratulated the new State Executives on their Induction as well as the Members on the successful hosting of their Conference and reminded them of the need to sustain high ethical standards in the transport sector in addition to putting into good use ideas and inputs from the conference.

In her address, the Zonal Coordinator of the Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria and Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Deaconess Clara Okere said the Conference is a veritable avenue for shaping strategic Professionals in the transport administration and encouraged the new Inductees to use their knowledge for the advancement of the transport profession by avoiding acts that would tarnish the image of the Institution.

Presenting his address, the President of Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria, Prince Segun Obayendo opined that the body is charged with the responsibility of advancing the study, Training and Practice of Transport Management and Administration in Nigeria and other related matters and enjoined the Inductees and Members to be committed to the Institute by taking advantage of the Conference to impact positively on humanity and world at large.

The Conference which featured keynote Presentation on Stakeholders Engagement In Transport: The Need For Professional Development by Dr Ejem A Ejem and goodwill message from the Traditional Ruler of Mgbarakuma Ancient Kingdom, Ubakala in Umuahia South LGA, Eze Ebere Ubani among others attracted the presence of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Pastor Dike Nwankwo, the State Head of Service, Sir Onyi Wamah, Top Government Officials and other notable Personalities.
