FIC Report (Abia State) – The Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly and member Representing Ohafia South State Constituency, Ifeanyi Uchendu and the Majority Leader and Member representing Obingwa East State Constituency, Hon. Solomon Akpulonu narrowly escaped impeachment by Members of the House.
This was followed in a matter Of urgent Public Importance raised by the Member representing Ukwa East State Constituency, Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Paul Taribo.
The Motion was seconded by Hon. Chukwu Chijioke, representing Bende South State Constituency and support by the former Speaker, Rt. Hon. Chikwendu Kalu and Hon. Obinna Ichita among others.
The Deputy Majority Leader, Paul Taribo in his motion said the move was as a result of non performance of their statutory roles as Principal Officers of the House especially as it concerns the welfare of Members which therefore called for their immediate removal.
The Motion maintained that the two Members of the House have under performed and have lost the confidence of the House and insists for the immediate suspension or removal of the Deputy Speaker and the Majority Leader as Principal Officers.
The move which was thrown open for debate and considerations threw the house into pandemonium while the Speaker, Rt. Hon. (Engr.) Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji argued that their reasons were lame for removal of Principal Officers.
The Member representing Umunneochi State Constituency, Hon. Okey Igwe moved that the House be adjourned for the matter to be entertained at the Executive Session.
The Speaker after heated argument by Members at the floor of the House adjourned plenary indefinitely.
