FIC Report (Abia State) – Abia State government has assured the World Bank that the State will do everything within its ambit to improve the livelihood of Women in the State.
The Deputy Governor, who is the State Steering Committee Chairman of Nigeria For Women Project, Rt. Hon.Ude Oko Chukwu gave the assurance while receiving in audience, the World Bank Communication Crew in the State opined that the State embraced the Nigeria For Women Project with all seriousness by releasing the first and second batches of counterpart fund for the Project, which has led to its almost reaching the target number of Women Affinity Group of 50,000 out of the 54,000 recommended by World Bank and noted that the result of the Project is already manifesting in the lives of Women in the target Local Government Areas of the State.
He expressed delight that the Project has achieved its objectives in the State by uniting the Women, inculcating in them the culture of savings and turn out to be a channel of creating friendship among WAG Members.
Sir Oko Chukwu pointed out that the Project has equally helped the Government in reducing tension among its citizens in the various localities thereby helping to reduce pressure on Government.
He regretted that the Project is going to end in a short while, but promised that Government would see what to make out of the Project thereafter.
Earlier, the Leader of the World Bank Communication Crew, Communication Specialist, Dayo Ibitoye stated that in their bid to tour the six participating Project States in the Federation, they are in Abia State to ascertain the level of cooperation from the State in the activities of the Project and to harvest success stories emanating thereof.
The Team was in company of the State Project Coordinator of Nigeria For Women Project, Mrs. Georgina Agbagha together with the Behaviour Change Communication Unit of the Project in the State.
