UMUAHIA (FIC’s Report) – Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu has inaugurated the Title Verification Committee. He urged the members to be transparent in their dealings with the people, adding that Government would not entertain any form of ambiguity which will bring the image of Government to disrepute .
He made this known in his office in Government House, reiterating that due process should be their watch word in all transactions with the public, as they also relate with the Ministry of Lands within the confines of their mandate.
Governor Ikpeazu reiterated that land, as a veritable resource, should not be misplaced, but should be prioritized, maintaining that Government has lost so much to miscreants who sabotage her genuine efforts.
The Governor informed the committee of the enormous responsibilities placed on the members’ shoulders, hence they should not use it as an opportunity to extort money or witch hunt innocent title holders, who may be ignorant of land title and at cross roads on what they should do with acquired lands.
Some of the committee’s terms of reference include to verify title to all landed properties acquired by Government, to verify cases of encroachment into Government acquired lands by trespassers, to verify illegal acquisition of land in respect of schools returned by Government, and to identify and regularize those whose properties seek rectification.
In his acceptance speech, Barr. Adiele thanked the Governor for finding them worthy to do the work, while promising to abide by the terms and reference dictated by law, as they discharge their assigned duties without fear or favour.
