Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has commiserated with the family of the late PDP State Chairman, Sir Johnson Onuigbo who passed on recently after a brief illness.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the bereaved family at their country home, Umuobasi, Ugba Ibeku, Umuahia North, the Governor expressed deep regret over the death of Sir Johnson Onuigbo.
He described the late PDP Chairman as a dedicated and committed man, who contributed immensely to the growth of the party in the State and urged the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude, pointing out that God knows the best.
He further urged the children to sustain the legacies of their father.
Responding on behalf of the family, Chief Charles Ogbonnaya thanked the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for coming to condole with them in their time of grief.
He asked God to grant the soul of the departed eternal rest and grant them the heart to bear the loss.
The wife of the Late Chairman, Lady Uzoamaka Onuigbo and her children were present at the solemn visit.
In a related development , the Governor also commiserated with the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State over the death of its State Chairman, Chief Johnson Onuigbo at the Party Secretariat in Umuahia,
He said that if it were possible, tomorrow’s Congress would have been shifted on the account of the death of the party Chairman and therefore charged the Executive to conduct a rancour free State Congress as an honour to the deceased former Chairman.
He charged delegates to the PDP State Congress to ensure a hitch-free congress. He charged the party faithful to remain resolute and exhibit a high sense of discipline during the congress.
The Governor advised members of the Party to learn the virtue of sportsmanship and avoid needless bickerings over election outcomes.
He equally streessed the need for anyone who feels aggrived to seek redress through the proper channels as the Party has appropriate channels of handling issues.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the late PDP State Chairman, Sir. Johnson Onuigbo.
Responding, the State Acting Chairman of the Party, Hon P C Onyegbu thanked the Governor for the visit and expressed the sadness of the entire membership of the party in the State over the death of the Chairman.
He prayed God to accept his soul and comfort his family.
Hon Onyegbu also assured the Governor that all was set for the Congress of the Party and promised a free, fair and peaceful congress.
The Governor later signed the Condolence Registers in his Ugba Umuobasi home and at the Party Secretariat.
