FIC Report (Abia State) – The Abia State Police Command has successfully apprehended six suspects involved in a child-stealing and trafficking ring, rescuing three abducted children and reuniting them with their families.
According to a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen C. Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, the case unfolded on October 30, 2025, when a distraught father reported to the Owerrinta Police Divisional Headquarters that his three children—two boys and a girl—had gone missing after school.
Following swift intelligence-led investigations, police operatives arrested Onyinyechi Christopher (25) and Ogechi Chidi (31), who confessed to luring the children with biscuits and promises of soft drinks before handing them over to Bernadette Chukwu (67).
Further investigation revealed that the children were transported to Ebonyi State, where they were sold to Patience Nnaji (49), Felix Ikechukwu (54), and Abraham Ibiam (57).
The Police Command confirmed that all three children have been rescued and safely reunited with their families, while the suspects have been charged to court for prosecution.
In his remarks, CP Danladi Isa commended the officers involved for their diligence and urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to be more vigilant regarding who picks up children from school.
He emphasized the need for schools to establish clear handover procedures and routinely educate pupils and students on basic security awareness.
He further advised members of the public to report any suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines:
08035415405, 08079210004, 08079210005, 08079210006
