Abia State Government says it will continue to engage critical stakeholders for people to understand and comply with the new digital tax system in the State.
Special Adviser to the Governor on Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) Mr. Chimereze Okeigbo stated this during a Road Walk Sensitization Exercise, organized in conjunction with Abia State Internal Revenue Service in Umuahia, on the new Digital Tax regime in the State.
Okeigbo noted that with the new reform in the revenue collection process, Government would need to do more to explain to the people what they need to do, how to pay, and the metrics in terms of payment.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of excitement on the faces of citizens and their willingness to key into the new policy of Government adding that it would not take long for the State to experience an inflow in Internally Generated Revenue.
He frowned at the activities of motor Unions who continuously extort motorists in the name of Union for their own selfish gain without contributing anything to the revenue base of the State.
He, however said that the Government will in the coming days invite the motor Unions to a meeting to work out an amicable solution to their activities and how it would benefit the government.
The Special Adviser on IGR disclosed that with the launch of the new Tax Digital System by Governor Alex Otti and the eventual Stakeholders Town Hall meeting held to that effect, the revenue payment that was suspended in the transport and market avenue have commenced.
Mr. Okeigbo said with the conclusion of the road show in Umuahia metropolis, attention will now be shifted to Aba before moving down to the Abia North area to ensure that people internalize the new system and comply with it.
