In a bid to prevent the spread of Covid 19 Pandemic, the Abia State Government has commenced temporary shut down of eateries and shopping malls that are not complying with the preventives measures outlined by the government.
The enforcement team of the, led by the Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Solomon Ogunji and his Trade and Investment counterpart, Dr. Cosmos Ndukwe explained that the essence of temporary short down of those places was to ensure full compliance with the preventive measures already stipulated by the government.
They regretted that some of the Eatries and Malls have no infrared thermometer with which to check temperature of their customers while others have only hand Sanitizers without running water buckets.
The Commissioners, who visited Abia shopping mall, Crunchies, Hoefers , De Choice, Jovit commended the proactive measures being taken by some and insisted that it has to be sustained by the management.
They stressed the need for maintenance of high standard of hygiene among the Shopping Malls and Eateries.
For those whose business centres were sealed temporarily, they were told to report to the Chairman of the Inter-ministerial Committee and Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Chris Ezem, who would compelled them to sign undertaken to comply in line with the protocol of the preventive measures including ensuring that not more than 20 customers are allowed into Abia mall at the same time and maintain 1.5 metres standing or sitting.
It could be recalled that as a means of preventive possible outbreak of the virus, the Abia State Government is set to commence total four weeks lock down on public places.
In a related development, the Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Solomon Ogunji is leveraging on the monthly Sanitation exercise to sensitize market people on the essence of maintaining high standard of sanitation to prevent a full outbreak of Coronavirus in the State.
