The Deputy Governor, Sir Ude Oko Chukwu has called on the Abia State Board of Internally Generated Revenue and Stakeholders in revenue generation to work assiduously to meet the benchmark target of five billion naira given to them by the State Governor.
Sir Oko Chukwu gave the call during the one day seminar on Harmonization Of Revenue Collection In Abia State in Line with Abia State Tax Codification and Consolidation Law organised by the Abia State IGR Council held at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia.
He further charged Staff of the BIR to be more proactive and think outside the box to enable them achieve success and avoid getting sanctioned by the Governor, Dr Okezie lkpeazu.
The Deputy Governor and Chairman of the State Internally Generated Revenue Council reaffirmed that the MDAS and Parastatals are ready to co-operate with the BIR and other Stakeholders who have all the manpower to generate up to five billion naira monthly in terms of it’s potentials, market and revenue windows and urged the BIR Chairman not to hesitate to inform Government of any obstacle preventing them from achieving their mandate.
He used the Forum to reassure of the commitment of the Governor in meeting Staff welfare in their revenue collection drive in other to turn around the infrastructural architecture of the State and commended Organizers for their tenacity and committment in discharging their functions.
In their remarks, the Acting Chairman, Board of Internal Revenue, Mr Celestine Agbara and the Coordinator Abia Economic Advancement Team, Sir Mac Atasie said they organised the Seminar to highlight and synergize with Revenue Ministries and Agencies on the way forward to increasing the revenue source of the State Government and disclosed that Government has streamlined avenues of revenue collection in the State through the issuance of Abia State Social Identification Numbers to relevant Ministries.
The Seminar which featured Presentation of Papers,Questions and Answers from Participants attracted the presence of Body of Permanent Secretaries, The General Manager of ASEPA, Mr Eze Okwulehie , Chairmen of Local Govt Areas across the State and Stakeholders in the Revenue generation sector of the State.
