FIC Report (Jigawa State) – The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) in Jigawa State has commended the state governor, Umar Namadi, for disbursing ₦5.9 billion under the Civil Servants’ Agricultural Support Programme. The initiative is designed to encourage civil servants to participate in agriculture and enhance food production in the state.

The Civil Servants’ Agricultural Support Programme has been implemented in three phases and has benefited over 17,000 civil servants. The programme provides interest-free financial support to enable participants to engage in large-scale farming. The initiative aims to improve food production, strengthen economic diversification, and support agricultural development in the state.

The chairman of AFAN in Jigawa State, Engr. Auwalu Garba Ibrahim, described the programme as a significant step toward agricultural transformation. According to him, the initiative aligns with Governor Namadi’s 12-point development agenda and will encourage wider participation in agriculture while boosting productivity.

AFAN also acknowledged agricultural reforms introduced by the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu. These reforms include the provision of subsidized farming inputs and implements, which are expected to improve farmers’ productivity and strengthen national food security. The association noted that economic reforms under the Renewed Hope agenda have increased allocations to states and local governments, enabling greater investment in agriculture and infrastructure.

While commending the government’s efforts, AFAN raised concerns about attempts by some individuals to create division within the association through the formation of a parallel leadership. The chairman stated that the current leadership was legitimately constituted after the national body dissolved the former executives and conducted fresh elections in line with the association’s constitution. Members were therefore urged to disregard any parallel leadership and support the recognized executives.

The ₦5.9 billion agricultural support initiative is considered a major step toward strengthening food production and promoting agricultural participation among civil servants in Jigawa State. AFAN believes the programme will contribute to economic diversification, improve farmers’ productivity, and enhance the state’s contribution to national food security.
