The Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris FCNA has promised the Nigeria University Pensioners Association that the Treasury House would attend to pension issues concerning them with promptness, seriousness and zeal.
Mr. Idris made this assertion when the leadership of the Association paid him a visit in his office in Abuja recently. He accepted the responsibility of the office of the Accountant-General as one of the key institutions of government saddled with roles to play in pension matters but was however quick to point out that it does not all end at the Treasury House, other institutions and MDAs also have their roles to play, promising to make sure that any aspect that requires the input of the office of the Accountant-General will be acted upon speedily.

The Directors IPPIS and Special duties were immediately assigned by the AGF to attend to the executives of the Association and deal promptly with their matters. He assured the representatives of the association that any payments within the purview of the OAGF and not in contention or litigation would be paid and promptly too.

On the arrears of 36 months, the AGF promised that it would be looked into and a submission would be made to the appropriate quarters as the OAGF does not have a final say on that.

Earlier in his remarks, the National President of the Association, chief Christopher A. Umoh tabled their requests before the AGF and the OAGF Management Team which included but not limited to non-payment or delay in payments of; check-off dues, 36 months arrears, union dues, inclusion for representation on the Nigerian Stakeholders’ Board on Pension, unethical inclusion of non-members in check off payments, review of pension every five years or together with any Federal Civil Service Salary review, whichever is earlier.

The Chairman appealed to the AGF to use his good office to address their predicament as a large number of members of the association have passed on due to lack of funds to take care of their medical checks and medications in their old age.
