AGILE Girl-Child Education Has Come To Stay -Gov. Sule tells Stakeholders

FIC Report (Nasarawa State) – Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, on Monday, said his administration will continue to invest huge resources into the state’s education sector as the bedrock of development.

Sule believed that the release of the mandated 150,000,000.00 (One Hundred and Fifty Million Naira) into the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE Project) will stimulate learning and actively promote adolescent Girls education in the state.

He made the remark while speaking during the official flag-off of School Improvement Grant to 490 Secondary Schools by the Nasarawa State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the AGILE Project in Lafia.

Nasarawa State was selected to participate in the project following the fulfillment of all requirements as provided in the template with the release of the mandated one and fifty million naira to support the initiative.

Governor Sule explained that AGILE Project has provided government with the strategic opportunities to address the challenges of access, retention and quality of girl-child education at the secondary school level in the state.

He added that the flag-off of the improvement grants represents the government’s continuation of tangible impact as the funds will be disbursed to the target beneficiaries, appealing to School-based Management Committee and other key stakeholders to manage the resources judiciously in line with guideline of the Project.

The Nasarawa Governor appreciated the Federal Government as well as World Bank, vowing to generously support the initiative.

In his welcome address, State Commissioner of Education, John Mamman emphasized that AGILE Project is an initiative of the Federal Government, supported by the World Bank to improve access, retention and learning outcomes among adolescent girls.

The Nasarawa State Project Coordinator, Aisha Aliyu Isoga said the Project’s objective was to expand secondary education opportunities for adolescent girls in targeted areas within the 21 implementing states, targeting girls between the ages 10 to 20.

On his part, the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad, represented by the Aren Eggon, Justice Ahmed Ubangari Alaku called on the stakeholders who will manage the Project not to disappoint the Governor and ensure the grants were used for the purpose it was meant for.
