Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari has called on Voice of America (VOA) to collaborate with her Future Assured Programme in assisting children born with congenital problems in Nigeria. She made the call on Monday, 30th July 2018 when officials from Voice of America (VOA) led by Director, Amanda Bennet, paid her a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Mrs. Buhari said the partnership will assist less-privileged families in their bid to save the lives of their children. She commended VOA for playing a key role in educating the world on the dangers of drug abuse, stigmatisation against people living with HIV/AIDS as well as women and child abuse.
She informed the visiting team that Future Assured Programme has been running medical outreach programmes especially for the less privileged families in Nigeria.
Mrs Buhari said that, VOA Hausa service was part of the Nigeria’s history especially to families and communities in Northern Nigeria.
She said, being an ardent listener of VOA Hausa service, herself, Mrs Buhari said she is aware of the immense work of VOA to conscientize citizens on political participation and inclusion. She advocated for an increase in women participation in politics.
In her remark, the Director of VOA, Amanda Bennet, said that the Voice of America shared many things with the Future Assured Programme especially in the areas of creating awareness on women and child health as well as women participation in politics.
The Director said VOA has a wide coverage and listeners in Nigeria and will launch a radio programme aimed at publicising socio-economic programmes of women as well as gender violence against women.
